If you live outside the city limits, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit web site has information for all public school districts in Allegheny County. In Pennsylvania, attendance at school is compulsory for all children ages 8 to 17 or upon graduation from high school, whichever is sooner. Public school is free for children beginning with Kindergarten to Grade 12 (approximately ages 5 to 18). Eligibility for attendance at a particular public school is based upon where you live.

Carnegie Library
The Carnegie Library system is free to the public and offers numerous locations throughout the region. In addition to books and other periodicals, the library offers several programs for people of all ages. The Oakland branch provides: computer classes, foreign language courses, career development programs, arts and crafts courses, and family-orientated literacy events. The Oakland branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is a short walk from the Cathedral of Learning. The Squirrel Hill branch offers a variety of programs: family-orientated literacy events, film showings, yoga classes, writing workshops, book clubs, conversational English sessions, and a variety of other informational events.
Carnegie Museums
There are 4 museums in the Carnegie Museum system: the Andy Warhol Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and the Carnegie Science Center. If you are a student, you can into all of these museums for free. If you are not a student, you gain access to all 4 museums when you join as a member.

Children's Museum of Pittsburgh

City of Pittsburgh Department of Parks and Recreation
The Citiparks website lists dozens of recreational opportunities available in the City of Pittsburgh’s numerous parks: arts festivals, outdoor movie showings, concerts, summer day camps, farmers’ markets, and much more.
Community College of Allegheny County: Community Education
The Community College of Allegheny County provides non-credit courses through its Community Education program. Topics of these personal enrichment courses include: world languages, fitness, health, music, dance, horticulture, driver’s education, and cooking.
