On January 31, 2020, President Trump issued a Proclamation, adding six new countries to the list of people banned from entering the United States, effective February 21, 2020. The countries added to the ban are Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania. This ban, however, does not address nonimmigrant visa holders and, therefore, should not directly affect a Pitt student or scholar who wishes to enter the U.S. in F or J status.
The following chart, from NAFSA: Association of International Educators, specifies the class of travelers currently affected by the Trump Administration’s bans. Travel Bans 3.0 refers to the rules put into place with the original 2017 Executive Order. Travel Bans 4.0 refers to the 2020 Proclamation.
Travel Bans 3.0 and 4.0 travel and entry ban restrictions apply to the following countries in specific ways. (https://www.nafsa.org/professional-resources/browse-by-interest/executiv...)
