Administrative Functions
OIS Administration is responsible for overseeing all aspects of office operations, including strategic planning and business management, for all functional units within the office: Immigration Services, International Admissions, and International Programming & Public Relations. The office is responsible for providing these various services to the entire University, including all schools, colleges, and centers at the Oakland campus, as well as all regional campuses (Bradford, Greensburg, Johnstown, Titusville).
Some of the specific key administrative responsibilities residing with OIS Administration include the following:
- Serving as a nexus for ensuring University compliance with all federal, state, and local laws/regulations regarding international students, international faculty, international staff, other international visitors, and their accompanying dependents (i.e., spouse and children);
- In consultation with faculty, senior administrators and officers, the Office of General Counsel, Office of Human Resources, Office of Community & Government Relations, and other academic and administrative units, OIS Administration oversees the determinations with regard to the visa classification and employment options for international students, faculty, staff, and other international visitors, seeking to make determinations that will permit the greatest benefit and flexibility to the University and to the individual;
- Monitoring and shaping legislation, regulations, and policies at the federal, state, and local levels that affect international educational exchange, and interpreting and applying those directives and controls in the University environment in support of the teaching, research, and community service goals of the University.
- Oversight of the international admissions functions of the office, including foreign academic credential evaluations;
- Oversight of the immigration services of the office for international students, international faculty, international staff, other international visitors, and their accompanying dependents (i.e., spouse and children);
- Oversight of the international international programming and public relations functions of the office, which includes social/cultural programs and events designed to promote international good will, assist international visitors in establishing social acquaintances, and provide for cultural, social, and educational exchange;
- OIS human resources management;
- OIS budget management and oversight;
- OIS strategic planning;
- Facilitating internal partnerships with all University schools and centers such as the University Center for International Studies, as well as external partnerships with organizations such as the Oakland Planning and Development Corporation.
- Engaging in advocacy initiatives, in partnership with the Office of Community and Governmental Relations, regarding public policy issues that affect the international population at the University, and seeking to promote the value of international educational and cultural exchange.
